If you’re thinking about newborn photos and your first reaction is panic about your house — let me stop you right there.
You do not need a perfect house for newborn photos.
You don’t need spotless counters, styled shelves, or rooms that look like a magazine.
And I say this as a photographer and as a mom.
This is the most important thing to know. This is not a real estate photoshoot.
When I come into your home for a newborn session, I’m not documenting every corner of every room. I’m not walking through with a checklist. And I promise — no one is zooming in on your baseboards. God knows mine are disgusting.
Newborn sessions are about:
We’re focusing on people, not spaces.
Most of what makes newborn photos feel calm and beautiful comes down to framing, lighting, and closeness.
Here’s what that looks like in practice:
Not every area of every room will be visible. Often, only a tiny portion of a space makes it into the frame — and it’s chosen carefully.
You don’t need to rearrange your life for this. I literally will just move things that are in my way, and then I’ll put them back in the stack or place they were in.
The most meaningful images don’t come from perfectly styled homes. They come from:
Those moments don’t need a clean house.
They need space, gentleness, and trust.
I know how raw this season can feel.
Your body is healing.
Your world just shifted.
Sleep is broken. Time feels strange.
The last thing you should be worrying about is whether your house looks “good enough” for photos.
I do not expect a perfectly cleaned home when I arrive. I don’t expect you to host me. I don’t expect anything other than for you to show up as you are.
Your only job during a newborn session is to:
I guide these sessions intentionally — gently and thoughtfully — so you don’t have to think about what comes next.
I know how to find the light.
I know how to frame what matters.
I know how to create space for real connection.
Even if your house feels chaotic to you right now, I promise the photos won’t.
Because what you’ll see later isn’t clutter or imperfection — it’s love.
Newborn photos aren’t about showing how put-together your life is.
They’re about remembering how it felt when everything was new.
When time slowed.
When your world became smaller and fuller all at once.
Your house doesn’t need to be perfect for that.
Your family already is.
Does this sound like a great way to capture this new stage of life? If so, please, get in my inbox because you are my people and I want to work together. Reach out here.
