During this magical time, capturing the beauty and radiance of pregnancy through a boudoir session can be an incredibly empowering and uplifting experience.

Boudoir photography celebrates the unique and sensual aspects of a woman’s body, allowing expectant mothers to embrace and honor the changes their bodies undergo. It serves as a reminder of the incredible miracle growing within, instilling a sense of confidence and self-love. Furthermore, a boudoir session during pregnancy offers an opportunity for women to indulge in self-care, pampering themselves and highlighting their natural beauty. It is a chance to capture a fleeting moment in time and create cherished memories that can be treasured for a lifetime.

This incredible mama came to celebrate motherhood and her sense of self. She is a local northern Michigan military mama who is already busy with two other children at home, and continues to celebrate her womanhood and pregnancy. Have you thought about a maternity boudoir shoot?

Here are some tips:

1. Schedule your session to land somewhere between 32-36 weeks gestation. Any earlier and you might not have as much of a bump as you’d like. Any later, and you might be too uncomfortable to do a whole lot. Every woman and body responds differently to pregnancy. Listen to yours and do what feels best.
2. Plan a variety of outfits that fit your personality. Most women like to bring in a bra and pants whether that be jeans, leggings, or flowy pants. It’s a great idea to bring something that makes you feel yourself (like beyonce). That could be lingerie, body jewelry, or even some cozy jammies. I have a gorgeous body jewelry set for maternity sessions as well as a gorgeous pink fluffy robe fit for a princess.
3. Eat a light meal before-hand. You will be moving around a lot, and doing movements that might feel unnatural to accentuate your bump. It’s a great idea to make sure you’re staying hydrated and keeping your energy up with nutritious food. That being said, it would not be a good idea to have heavy foods like fries/burgers before your session, as you might experience heart burn with some of the positions.
4. Stretch. Gentle stretching a couple of weeks before your session is a great idea. You can do any type of yoga pose that is safe for pregnancy. I recommend doing shoulder rolls, postural stretches to straighten your back and gentle /slow side to side twists as these will be the most common moves we make during your session.
5. Choose a boudoir photographer who knows what they are doing. Seriously.
